Job Summary

The Transportation Incharge oversees day-to-day fleet operations, driver management, and route scheduling. The core focus is ensuring that all deliveries and vehicle movements are carried out safely, on time, and within budget, while minimizing fleet maintenance costs and maximizing vehicle utilization.

Key Responsibilities

1. Fleet & Route Optimization

  • Daily Scheduling: Plan, organize, and assign daily delivery routes and vehicle assignments for drivers to ensure maximum efficiency.
  • Tracking & Monitoring: Utilize GPS tracking systems to monitor vehicle movements in real time, managing delays, breakdowns, or rerouting needs instantly.
  • Fuel Management: Track fuel consumption across all vehicles, review mileage sheets, and implement measures to reduce fuel wastage or unauthorized use.

2. Team & Driver Management

  • Roster & Attendance: Manage driver schedules, duty rosters, and leave approvals to ensure continuous, uninterrupted daily operations.
  • Compliance & Licensing: Verify that all drivers hold valid commercial driving licenses, medical clearances, and clean driving records.
  • Safety Training: Conduct regular brief safety meetings covering defensive driving techniques, cargo loading safety, and emergency response procedures.

3. Vehicle Maintenance & Compliance

  • Preventive Maintenance: Schedule routine vehicle servicing, oil changes, tire rotations, and technical inspections to minimize sudden on-road breakdowns.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive individual logs for each vehicle, including registration, commercial insurance policies, fitness certificates, and tax renewals.
  • Accident Reports: Serve as the first point of contact for on-road incidents, managing vehicle recovery, insurance claims documentation, and police reporting if necessary.

Job Requirements

  • Background & Experience
    • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or an equivalent technical diploma.
    • Experience: 3 to 5 years of solid experience in fleet operations, transport management, or courier/logistics supervision.
  • Technical & Practical Skills
    • Software Proficiency: Practical experience with GPS tracking dashboards, and transport routing tools. Good working knowledge of MS Excel for tracking expenses.
    • Geographical Knowledge: In-depth, practical knowledge of local city layouts, main highways, traffic restrictions, and optimal transport corridors.
    • Technical Mechanics: Basic mechanical understanding of commercial vehicle engines and parts to evaluate garage repair invoices fairly.
